Bloomberg: Kone is considering increasing its ownership of a Japanese elevator company

Japanese technology company Toshiba is considering reducing its stake in its elevator unit after the company received interest from Finland’s Kone Oyj, sources familiar with the matter tell Bloomberg.

The Japanese company currently owns about 80 percent of its elevator unit Toshiba Elevator & Building System and, according to sources, may soon make a decision on whether to sell part or possibly all of its holdings.

According to Bloomerg, Kone has been talking to potential advisers about increasing its stake in Toshiba Elevator and has held preliminary talks with the Japanese company to express its interest. Kone currently owns just under 20 percent of Toshiba Elevator.

According to the sources, the negotiations are still in the early stages, and there is no certainty about a possible deal.
