The PP urges the Government to strengthen and protect Spanish Designer Fashion

The PP has registered in the Congress of Deputies a non-law proposal (PNL) by which it urges the Government to “strengthen” and “protect” Spanish Designer Fashion and ask for measures that penalize the purchase of counterfeit products or copies in fashion design and accessories.

This has been revealed by the ‘popular’ in an initiative for debate in the Culture Commission to which Europa Press has had access. Specifically, they ask that the Government promote the Strategic Lines of Signature Fashion (LEMA) and configure “a common identity” that defines signature fashion and promotes its relationship with crafts.

The PP has given as examples of fashion designers who have “exported” the image of Spain to Cristóbal Balenciaga or Manuel Pertegaz, as well as “references” from the 60s and 70s such as Paco Rabanne, Jesús del Pozo and Adolfo Domínguez. Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada and Manolo Blahnik also stand out.

On the other hand, those of Alberto Núñez Feijóo put the focus on training, considering that it is what guarantees the continuity of the activity and the “survival” and “excellence” of their jobs.

In fact, they raise the possibility of developing programs for the recovery and promotion of Spanish designer fashion and traditional crafts, adapting the training offer and especially Dual Vocational Training.

They have also proposed that, together with the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, the possibility of developing specializations that complete higher artistic education in this sense be explored.

In line, the PP calls for the development of collaboration formulas between Designer Fashion and the Spanish textile industry that favor its positioning and internationalization, in collaboration with entities such as ICEX, AC/E, TurEspaña and the Cervantes Institute.

They also consider it important to promote measures that guarantee the comprehensive transformation of the sector in Spain and ask for progress in “sustainability, circularity, digitalization and innovation in the sector.” In this sense, they request that entrepreneurship be favored in the world of Spanish fashion and emphasize digitalization and the use of new technologies in creative processes.

In the initiative, the PP warns that “one of the risks that Spanish designers suffer” is the market based on falsification and copying of their designs. For this reason, they demand that the Government update Spanish legislation and promote European debate to introduce effective measures that discourage, as well as penalize, the purchase of counterfeits or copies.
