Elections in Peru: an electoral official is detained after delays and lack of ballots

According to the newspaper La República, the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating ONPE officials for the alleged crime of collusion. The reason is because he would have made the request for the transportation service of the electoral material. Samamé Blas was, allegedly, the official who signed the terms of reference or requirements (TDR) for the award of the contract to the company Servicios Generales Galaga.

This company was in charge of distributing electoral material, but it had enormous delays. So much so, that the election had to be extended until this Monday so that some 50 thousand people could vote.

On Sunday they were unable to distribute ballots, ballot boxes and other items in 13 voting centers in the south of Lima.

With 53% of minutes processed by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Keiko Fujimori is in first place in the electoral contest with 16% of the valid votesfollowed by the former mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, who reaches 14%, according to the official count released since Sunday, April 12.

The presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori celebrated on Monday the results of polls and preliminary estimates of the Peruvian elections, which show her as a favorite for a runoff in June over the “enemy” of the left.

Since the early hours of this Monday, hundreds of people began to queue again outside the 13 schools in the districts of San Juan de Miraflores, Lurín and Pachacamác that were left without opening the voting stations on Sunday, despite the authorities extending the day for an additional hour.
