Amazon announced this Tuesday, April 14, the construction of a distribution center in Haut-Rhin, one of the largest in Europe, for an investment of more than 250 million euros with, as a result, the creation of 2,000 jobs.
This building, located in the town of Ensisheim, with a floor area of approximately 60,000 m² and 189,000 m² in total on three levels, should open at the end of 2027, the online sales giant told AFP. Which will make it, in terms of surface area, one of Amazon’s largest logistics centers in Europe, the company confirmed.
“Dedicated to the preparation of customer orders, this site will integrate the latest robotic technologies developed by Amazon,” according to a press release from the American company.
1.5 billion euros invested in the Grand Est since 2010
“In the Grand Est region, Amazon has invested more than 1.5 billion euros since 2010 and already employs more than 4,000 employees on permanent contracts” in its distribution center in Augny (Moselle) and its two delivery agencies in Woippy (Moselle) and Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), recalled the group.
In total, in France, Amazon employs 17,000 people in its distribution centers and 5,000 in its sorting and delivery agencies.
