This candy chain is fighting for survival: several branches are bankrupt

Hanover (Lower Saxony) – The chain makes millions in sales with confectionery from all over the world. But the success of House of Sweets seems to be dwindling: after the shop in Braunschweig had to close at the end of February, the largest branch to date in Hanover has now also been hit.

A bitter setback for the nationwide chain and its creators, who realized their dream of a sweet life in 2018. The store for confectionery on around 350 square meters, it was only opened in the summer of 2024 with Deniz Karadag as managing director. Together with his cousins ​​Tahir and Sahin Gülsahin, he once had the idea of ​​selling imported sweets from all over the world in Germany.

Business was booming, also thanks to social media. There was prominent support: The creators were guests on the YouTube show “At Home with Sido” by the Berlin rapper and music producer. Now the sudden end of the wave of success: On April 2nd, insolvency proceedings were opened against the assets of House of Sweets Hannover GmbH.

How the bankruptcy came about

Tahir Gülsahin (34), who is registered as managing director for the also insolvent location in Braunschweig, told BILD: “We have several companies. The current one insolvency only affects Hanover. Our online shop, our main company, still exists. It will be online again soon.” Orders are currently not possible via the website. The reason on the homepage: “Moving to a larger warehouse”.

In fact, there was a fire in the warehouse in August 2024 corporate in Thiede, a district of Salzgitter. Damage amounting to millions was caused. Tahir Gülsahin attributes the fact that the shops now had to close to the generally poor situation Retail back: “Fewer and fewer buyers are coming to the cities and therefore also to our stores. Tahir Gülsahin is still optimistic: “We still have seven branches, including in Hamburg, Bremen, Leipzig and Berlin.” There were once eleven locations, some with several branches. Some Shops were operated by themselves, others through franchisees. The branches in Stuttgart, Dortmund, Oberhausen and Kassel are already permanently closed. However, the entrepreneur still believes that the business idea with sweets from all over the world has a future. However, it won’t be a walk in the park.
