The French anti-star: actress Nathalie Baye dies at the age of 77

Baye was born on July 6, 1948 in Mainneville, Normandy. She filmed with great directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Bertrand Blier and Xavier Dolan. François Truffaut is considered to be its actual discoverer.

In “The American Night” she played the script girl Joëlle and became famous overnight. She achieved her international breakthrough in the psychodrama “The Green Room” in 1978, just five years later. Other well-known roles followed in “A Strange Story”, “The Betrayal” and “Beautiful Venus”.

In the international film hit “Catch Me If You Can” she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. The actress, who was awarded the French César Film Prize several times and also repeatedly acted in the theater, was popular in France because of her modesty. She describes herself as an “anti-star” and a person “full of opposites”. (dpa)
