Europe approved 37 million euros of state aid for a new gaming center in Novska

On Thursday, the European Commission approved Croatian state support of EUR 37 million for the construction of a gaming industry center in Novska. This support will enable the construction and equipping of two facilities intended for the gaming industry: a business incubator and a business accelerator. Both facilities will have standard and specialized workspaces, such as conference rooms, offices and game testing areas, as well as business support services for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector.

The project was co-financed by the Fund for a Just Transition in Sisčko-Moslavinač County, a region facing the challenges of transition from heavy industry. The project will contribute to the diversification of economic activities in the region with an emphasis on information and communication technology, especially the gaming sector. It will also contribute to the attraction and retention of talent in that area.

EU rules on state aid enable member states to support the development of certain economic activities under certain conditions.

The Commission determined that this measure is necessary and appropriate for the construction of facilities that will contribute to the development of new economic activities. It also determined that the aid is proportional, because it is limited to the necessary minimum and will have a limited impact on market competition and trade between member states.
