Iranian production does not come to the Ruhr Festival

The Iranian production “The Child” will not be played at the Ruhr Festival after all. After weeks in which the festival organizers maintained contact, however sporadic, with the Iranian artists, a few days before the opening of the festival at the beginning of May it is now clear that the Shieveh Theater Company will not make it: not out of Iran and not into Germany. Because air traffic to Tehran has practically stopped because there are hardly any opportunities to apply for or get visas. Because the artists are already in the sights of a state that is even more repressive than before.
