NBA: when will we know the opponent and dates of the playoff semi-finals for Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs?

A first step forward. Last night the Spurs officially validated their ticket to the semi-finals of the Western Conference in the NBA, the prestigious North American basketball championship, by overcoming their series against the Portland Trail Blazers.

A qualification for the second round of the final phases which constitutes a first for Victor Wembanyama. The San Antonio franchise has not reached this round since the 2016-2017 season.

But the Frenchie and his partners will still have to wait a little longer to find out the rest of the festivities, whether it be the name of their future opponent or the start of the series.

Second at the end of the regular season in the West, the Spurs will face the winner of the duel between the Denver Nuggets (3rd) and the Minnesota Timberwolfs (6th) in the next round. A series which has still not delivered its verdict.

Favorites on paper, the Nuggets fell on a bone with the Wolfs. And Nikola Jokic came across an intractable defender in the person of Rudy Gobert. Led 3-1 Denver avoided a premature exit by winning (125-113) in the last match on Tuesday.

Minnesota can end the suspense

Minnesota, now handicapped by the injury of its star Anthony Edwards, can put an end to the suspense on the night of Thursday to Friday in the event of success in match 6. In the event of a tie the two teams would meet again for a decisive match 7 48 hours later.

The official schedule for the Spurs’ Western Conference semi-final is therefore on hold until the standoff between the Nuggets and the Wolfs has found its winner. However, we can envisage a start of the series around May 4.

Note that the Western Conference final must begin on May 18 or 20, depending on the duration of the two semi-finals. The first match of the NBA finals is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 in the United States. A new best-of-seven-match series which will end at the latest, in the event of match 7, on June 19.
