Marcelino García Toral will leave Villarreal at the end of the season

The Asturian coach Marcelino García Toral will not continue leading the Villarreal CF bench once this season ends, thus ending his second stage in the entity, which he arrived in November 2023, later achieving two consecutive qualifications for the Champions League.

“Villarreal CF and Marcelino García Toral will separate their paths at the end of the season. In this way, the Asturian coach will end his second stage in the entity, after having arrived in 2023, qualifying for the Champions League for the second consecutive year and for the first time in the club’s history,” reported a club statement.

Villarreal thanked the coach for his “professionalism, commitment and work from day one”, as well as his “daily involvement and contribution to sporting development during the seven seasons in which he has led the team in both stages” (2013-2016 and 2023-2026).

The Spaniard has become the coach with the most matches coached in the club’s history – he will end up with 298 matches in all competitions – and holds the club’s record of victories with 145 wins to date.

In his career as first coach of the ‘Submarino’, García Toral achieved the return of Villarreal CF to the highest category of Spanish football in 2013 and five European qualifications between the Champions League and Europa League – a competition in which they reached the semi-finals in 2016 -, in addition to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in 2015.

Villarreal will honor Marcelino García Toral in the last EA Sports LaLiga match against Atlético de Madrid on the weekend of May 22-24, in what will be “the Champions League celebration party with the fans at the Estadio de la Cerámica.”
