Hegseth refused to confirm or deny the presence of “kamikaze dolphins” in the United States

During a press conference held at the Pentagon on May 5, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said that Iran does not use “kamikaze dolphins” during operations in the Strait of Hormuz. “I can’t confirm or deny whether we have kamikaze dolphins, but they don’t,” he said.

CNN quotes a source familiar with operations in the Strait of Hormuz as saying the U.S. Navy does not use dolphins. However, the US Navy has a program using dolphins to detect mines, and it has been in operation for several decades.

The Marine Mammal Program is a division of the Intelligence and Surveillance Department of the Naval Information Warfare Center in the Pacific. It is noted that dolphins are not suicide bombers, sacrificing themselves to explode. Their goal is to detect, not destroy, mines.
