John Ternus anticipates a new stage for Apple after the departure of Tim Cook

Ternus, until now head of engineering at Apple, participated in the conference call about the quarterly results with a short message in which he thanked Cook for his trust and assured that it was “the most exciting moment” in his 25-year career at the firm.

For his part, Cook stated that the “transition” comes at the “right” time and described Ternus, with whom he plans to “work closely” before his replacement, as a colleague, a friend and the “right leader” for Apple because he will be able to “move forward stronger than we believe possible.”

Neither of them wanted to give details about this “roadmap”, but Cook, who starred in the conference, highlighted the strength of the iPhone, considering the latest version, version 17, the most popular to date, and showing off the photos taken by the astronauts of the Artemis mission with the phone.

However, he admitted that during the quarter the iPhone and the Mac, mainly, were “limited” by the “availability of the advanced nodes” with which their chip systems are produced, and clarified that the problems in the current quarter will focus more on computers than the phone.

“Right now we are very limited on the supply side with the MacBook Neo. We were very convinced of the product before announcing it, but we underestimated the level of enthusiasm it would generate. It has to do with bringing the Mac to even more people than we reached before,” he added.

In that sense, he alluded to a trend in the educational system in which public schools, such as those in Kansas City, are renewing Windows computers and Chromebooks with the MacBook Neo, as well as at the individual consumer level.

He also announced that, in the case of the Mac Mini and the Mac Studio, “it may take several months to reach a balance between supply and demand.”

The company is one of the large American technology companies that have published their quarterly results this week, but unlike the others, which are in the middle of the race for the development of artificial intelligence (AI), this technology was not the center of the conversation.
