Zelensky to foreign leaders going to Moscow on May 9: “We don’t recommend this”

“Ukraine proposed a ceasefire to Russia, and this is not the first proposal. This time, a ceasefire from May 6. Ukraine was ready to ensure complete silence, but in response to this peace proposal of ours there were only new Russian strikes, new threats from Russia,” the head of state wrote in the Telegram messenger.

“They want to get permission from Ukraine to hold a parade, ensure security in the square for an hour a year, and then resume war and killings. They are already talking about strikes after May 9. The logic of the Russian leadership is strange. Inadequate,” the president added.

Earlier, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that the parade participants would be President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and Supreme Ruler of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim. Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico will come to Moscow, but will not appear on Red Square.

Among the heads of state who will be guests of the Russian capital, Ushakov also named the leaders of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Republika Srpska. In fact, we are talking about territories that are hardly recognized by anyone.

Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova called on employees of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations to leave Kyiv due to the possibility of a Russian strike on the capital of Ukraine. According to her, the corresponding note was sent to the diplomatic missions located in Ukraine on May 4.

The official said that if Ukraine violates the truce in honor of Victory Day, Russian armed forces could launch a massive strike on Kyiv. She accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of threatening to disrupt Victory Day in Moscow – despite the fact that Zelensky spoke only of Russia’s fear of such a scenario.
