Benčić announced lawsuits for lying about her grandfather: ‘The ease with which opponents are attacked today causes chills’

Benčić said that such accusations cause great damage to her family, especially to members who are not involved in politics.

“It caused a lot of damage to my family, especially my parents and brother who are not in politics and who experience serious inconvenience because of it,” she said.

She added that she believes that today people can publicly make serious accusations without any evidence without any consequences, while at the same time encountering the tacit approval of part of the political scene.

“The ease with which political opponents are attacked today with complete lies, lies about family members, especially deceased family members who can no longer defend themselves, is chilling,” she said.

She also announced possible lawsuits for spreading, as she says, untruths about her family. She explained that according to legal advice, she personally cannot file a lawsuit for violating the rights of her late grandfather, but her father could do it as the closest relative.

“However, here, I talked to my father and he is ready and willing to file a defamation lawsuit against people who lie like this,” Benčić said.

In the interview, she referred to the negotiations regarding the election of Constitutional Court judges and sharply criticized Prime Minister Andrej Plenković because of the way he conducts political negotiations.

“It was crazy. From the rhetoric to the performance and the fact that he didn’t want to admit that he obstructed the election of the president of the Supreme Court for a year,” she said.

She said that the HDZ is trying to cause a rift between the SDP and Mozcaron;emo, but she believes that it will not succeed.

“HDZ will do everything and is doing everything in order not to in any way cause a rift between SDP and Možo. But that will not happen,” she pointed out.

Benčić she also spoke about inflation, for which she directly attributed responsibility to the Government.

“It is only and exclusively Plenkovic’s inflation,” she said, adding that Croatia is not sufficiently resistant to external energy and food shocks.
She also criticized the way European funds are spent, stating that the money is invested in tourist projects instead of food production or housing for young people.

She also touched upon the social divisions surrounding manifestations such as the Walk for Life and the Trnjanski kresov, saying that the issue of fascism should not be relativized in a democratic society.

“Those who challenge it probably have sympathies for fascism and the Ustasha that was. It’s not an ideological difference, it’s a civilizational difference,” said Benčić.

Speaking about double criteria in politics and society, she also referred to the case of Josip Dabra.

“Because then he has the power to say what is allowed and when it is and when it is not. In normal countries, it is done by the courts, and in autocratic countries, it is done by the prime ministers,” she concluded.
