Ukrainian Armed Forces: 56 out of 67 UAVs were intercepted at night. Russian Defense Ministry: 264 drones shot down

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports that on the evening of May 7 and at night of May 8, 2026 (including before the “truce” declared by the Kremlin), the Russian military launched 67 kamikaze UAVs and other types of drones across Ukraine. Ukrainian air defenses claim to have intercepted 56 UAVs launched by the Russian military. 11 strike UAVs were recorded in eight locations, as well as falling fragments in seven locations. Damage has been caused.

The Russian Ministry of Defense states that on the night of May 8, 264 Ukrainian aircraft-type UAVs were intercepted on the territory of the Russian Federation (it is not said how many could not be intercepted). Interceptions were carried out over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tula, Ulyanovsk, Yaroslavl regions, Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Moscow region, the Azov and Black Seas. Restrictions were introduced on the operation of airports. Damage has been caused. Governor of the Rostov region Yuri Slyusar said that as a result of UAV and missile attacks there is destruction in the cities of Taganrog, Bataysk, Rostov-on-Don, as well as in the Myasnikovsky district. Information about the damage caused is being clarified.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Russian troops continued massive attacks on Ukrainian positions last night, carrying out more than 140 attacks and more than 850 strikes with various types of drones, while “not even a simulated ceasefire attempt was recorded on the Russian side.” According to Zelensky, more than 10 assault actions were also recorded, most of all in the Slavyansk direction. In addition, Russian forces used FPV drones, Lancets and other attack drones, and continued to use reconnaissance drones over front-line communities. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine will act in a mirror way: “We will defend our positions and people’s lives. Russia must end its war, and everyone will really notice this when the movement towards peace begins.”
