An Israeli citizen collapsed and died during his stay in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt

A family vacation in Sharm el-Sheikh ended today (Sunday) in a major disaster: a 42-year-old Israeli citizen, a resident of the north of the country, collapsed and died in front of his wife and their three children while they were on vacation in the Sinai Peninsula.

The initial report of the case was received at the ZAKA hotline a few hours ago. According to the known details, the deceased suddenly lost consciousness during the family’s stay there. Despite attempts at assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene, which turned the family trip into a tragic and logistically complex event.

Upon receipt of the report, the international division of Zaka entered the picture, working in close cooperation with the department for Israelis abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The teams began coordination with the authorities in Egypt and Israel to take care of everything required to transfer the deceased to burial in Israel.

Baruch Nidam, the director of the international division at ZAKA, who is handling the incident, said: “Immediately upon receiving the report of the serious incident, the international division team contacted the family members staying there. Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we accompany the family in its most difficult moments and work through all channels to move the coffin of the deceased to Israel as soon as possible, for the funeral and burial.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware of the incident and is assisting in coordination with the consulate in Cairo. As of this moment, a date has not been set for the funeral of the deceased, and the family is waiting for the completion of the bureaucratic procedures to return the body to Israel.

This tragic event joins another death case of an Israeli citizen in the Sharm el-Sheikh area that happened last March. In the same incident, an Israeli was killed in a fatal car accident and two other Israelis were injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. In that case too, Baruch Nidam and the team of Zaka’s international division handled the return of the dead and wounded to Israel. Nidam noted at the time that the teams work as quickly as possible in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to handle complex incidents of this type overseas.
