Football: Siebert whistles the Champions League final

German referee Daniel Siebert will officiate the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal FC. UEFA announced this. The 42-year-old has appeared in nine games in the current Champions League season, including the quarter-final first leg between Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal and the semi-final second leg between Arsenal and Atlético Madrid. Now, after the semi-final exit of the last German representative, FC Bayern, Siebert can also referee the final on Saturday, May 30th in Budapest (6 p.m./ZDF).

Only four German referees officiated the Champions League final

To date, only four German referees have refereed a Champions League final: Hellmut Krug (1998), Markus Merk (2003), Herbert Fandel (2007) and most recently Felix Brych (2017). Siebert is supported on the sidelines by his assistants Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn. The fourth official is the Swiss Sandro Schärer. Bastian Dankert and Robert Schröder act as video assistants.

For Siebert, the final appearance is not the only career highlight in the coming weeks: the Berliner will be the only German referee at the 2026 World Cup.
