X commits to reviewing at least 85% of content reported as hate and terrorism within 48 hours in the UK

The British online security regulator Ofcom has accepted the new protection measures which is committed to applying the red social X in the United Kingdom to reinforce the fight against illegal content related to hate and terrorism, reviewing at least 85 percent of reported content in 48 hours.

These new measures by Elon Musk’s social network are framed in a context of growing regulatory pressure on large digital platforms under the framework of the British online safety law, Online Safety Act, which gives Ofcom the ability to demand stricter measures against illegal and potentially harmful content on the Internet to protect users.

Thus, the agency began a compliance program in the month of December to evaluate whether large social media companies they have Appropriate systems and processes to manage illegal hate and terrorist material that has been reported to them. Among other issues, analyzing the speed and effectiveness with which platforms like X manage publications related to this type of content once they are aware of it.

As a result, X has been committed to accelerating its timelines for reviewing illegal hate and terrorism content allegedly coming from the United Kingdom reported on the platform through its specific tools.

Specifically, it has assured that it will identify and analyze this type of content in a average period of 24 hours from notification and, at a minimum, will evaluate the 85 percent of cases in less than 48 hours.

If these objectives are achieved, users in the United Kingdom will have one of the strongest protections in X globallyas detailed by Ofcom in a statement.

Furthermore, X has agreed to work with experts in reporting systems for illegal hate and terrorism contentresponding to the need to report on whether complaints reported through third-party organizations were being received or if action was being taken.

To prove all this, the ‘microblogging’ platform will report quarterly data on these guidelines to Ofcom over the next 12 monthsin order to ensure that all commitments are being carried out by X. If the social network does not comply with these agreed guidelines, Ofcom may impose the corresponding fines.
