The president of the United States, Donald Trump avoided commenting this Friday on the reports of a possible investigation by his Government against the former Cuban president, Raul Castro and insisted that they have a lot to discuss with Havana.
Castro formally left the leadership of the Cuban Communist Party in 2021, and continues to be considered an influential figure within the country’s political apparatus.
His grandson, Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro has functioned as a point of contact in recent conversations between both countries.
Reports of a possible indictment against the veteran leader emerged the same day the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), John Ratcliffe, met with Cuban leaders in Havana, including Rodríguez Castro.
Ratcliffe would have placed on the table Washington’s conditions to manage relations with Cuba, which is suffering one of its worst economic and humanitarian crises, aggravated by the oil blockade imposed since last January.
