AfD leads the CDU/CSU by 7 points in the latest survey in Germany

The far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) would achieve 29% of votes, its best historical result at the national level, in a federal election, seven points above the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its allies in the Christian Social Union (CSU), according to the latest survey carried out by the Insa demographic institute for the Sunday ‘Bild am Sonntag’.

22% of votes would place the CDU/CSU in second place, one point less than a week ago, while the Greens would be in third position with 14% support.

The historic Social Democratic Party (SPD) would remain at 12%, so the current CDU/CSU-SPD coalition would only reach 34% support. The Left party loses one point and remains at 10%.

For their part, the Liberal Democratic Party (FDP) and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) remain at only 3% and, therefore, would not have representation in the Bundestag or Lower House of Parliament), as they do not overcome the 5% barrier established in the electoral legislation.

Other polls place the AfD between 25 and 28% of voting intention and the CDU/CSU between 22 and 24%. Insa indicates a maximum margin of error of plus/minus 2.9 percentage points. The results are based on the responses of 1,203 participants collected between Monday and Friday of last week.
