The president of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, has been “very concerned” about the arrest of several Irish activists, including her sister, Margaret, by the Israeli Army after a new boarding in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea of ​​a flotilla seeking to reach the coasts of the Gaza Strip.

“It is quite worrying, and I am very worried about her, and I am also very worried about her companions on board,” she said, as reported by the Irish television network RTE, after the publication of a video on behalf of her sister previously recorded to be aired in the event of a boarding of the boat in which she was traveling.

In her video, Margaret Connelly tells viewers that if the video has been released, it implies that she “was kidnapped” from her boat “by the Israeli occupying forces.” “I am very proud to be part of this fleet, the largest to date,” she adds.

For his part, the Irish Prime Minister, Micheál Martin, has “firmly” condemned the “interception of Sumud flotilla vessels in international waters and the detention of those on board by the Israeli military forces”, which is why he has called for “their immediate release”.

“The Government has conveyed to the Israeli authorities its concern for the well-being of the detainees,” he said in a statement on social networks, where he insisted that “these interceptions and detentions are absolutely unacceptable and must stop.”

“The Government will also discuss with partners from the European Union (EU) how we can guarantee the security and well-being of our citizens,” he noted, after the organizers of the flotilla denounced more than 400 detainees, including 33 Spaniards, due to the actions of Israeli forces, carried out in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea.
