Europa League final: Freiburg wants to win the title – and stay humble

SC Freiburg enjoys a reputation in large parts of the country as if it were a heritage of football culture protected by UNESCO. And that is definitely true. In the Breisgau biosphere, ancient phenomena can be observed that have disappeared in the urban centers of the rest of Germany: head coaches remain in the service of the club until they become grandfathers; Players like Nicolas Höfler, Christian Günter and Lukas Kübler spend their entire professional careers at the club, and the management is directed by men like Klemens Hartenbach, who was already part of the staff during Helmut Kohl’s time in the 20th century (at that time as a goalkeeper for the second division team). If an original specimen of the aurochs, which died out in 1627, were found somewhere in the SC Freiburg reserve, no one would be surprised.
