The White House confirms that Trump will participate in the G7 summit that France will host in June

The White House has confirmed that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, will participate in the G7 summit that France will host between June 15 and 17, which will be his first trip to Europe since the launch in February of the offensive against Iran together with Israel and given the tensions with several European allies of the bloc.

The US Presidency has indicated in a brief statement that Trump will travel to the French town of Évian-Les-Bains – a city located in the east of the country, near the border with Switzerland – on the aforementioned dates, coinciding with the G7 summit.

Trump’s presence at the summit had not been taken for granted due to tensions between the United States and some of its partners in the G7 – especially France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy – due to their position on the offensive against Iran, of which they were not warned and which led to a regional conflict in the Middle East.

These differences have also been reflected within NATO, with harsh criticism from Washington of Spain, among other allies, for not authorizing the use of bases in its territory for the offensive, an issue that is expected to appear on the agenda, pending the situation on the ground once the summit arrives due to the current stagnation of the dialogue between Tehran and Washington after the temporary ceasefire agreement reached on April 8.

Likewise, some European countries have been critical of the economic impact of the conflict on their economies, especially in the wake of the restrictions imposed by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz as part of its response to the United States and Israel and the subsequent US military blockade of the route to force the closure of Iranian ports.
