American Football: Star quarterback Rodgers announces retirement

Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to end his career after the upcoming NFL season. “That’s it,” the 42-year-old football star said Wednesday in his first public appearance since signing a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His 22nd season, which starts in September, will also be his last.

One of the key factors behind Rodgers’ decision to stick around for another year was his collaboration with the new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. He had already worked with McCarthy for 13 years at the Green Bay Packers. They won the Super Bowl together in 2011.

The four-time MVP explained that he wanted to consciously determine the end of his career himself. McCarthy and Rodgers were already in close contact in the winter and spring while the quarterback was thinking about another season. Now he wants to concentrate entirely on the coming season.
