Manuel Baum remains coach of FC Augsburg

“Even though the plans were different when I returned as Head of Development and Innovation, I have enjoyed the daily work with the team, staff and coaching team so much over the past few months that I would like to continue on the path I have chosen with the team,” Baum is quoted as saying in a statement: “I am therefore looking forward to the tasks ahead after the summer break.”

Baum, as the successor to Sandro Wagner, led the Augsburg team from the bottom of the table to the threshold of the European Cup; FCA ended the season in ninth place (43 points). “Manuel and the coaching team managed the turnaround in the fall of 2025 during a difficult phase. With a strong second half of the season, we also achieved the third-best Bundesliga placement in FCA history,” said sports director Benni Weber. Weber therefore sees a “very good basis for a successful shared future.”

After the season finale, only words of praise were heard from the team. Baum is “a fine person” and “a very, very good coach,” said Michael Gregoritsch: “I think the performances on the pitch spoke for themselves.”

In addition to head coach Baum, Alexander Frankenberger, Frank Fröhling and Felix Kling as assistant coaches and Benedikt Brust as game and video analyst will continue to work in these roles for the FCA. To fill the currently vacant position of Head of Development and Innovation, the FCA wants to “calmly conduct discussions” and “look for the best possible solution.”

Baum has coached Augsburg for a long time, from December 2016 to April 2019. The Landshut native then looked after the German U20 national team and Schalke 04 for just under three months. Baum then became head of the youth performance center at RB Leipzig.
