An Iranian plot to assassinate the leaders of the Jewish community in Germany was foiled

The federal prosecution in Germany filed a serious indictment against two people for espionage, attempted involvement in murder and planning terrorist attacks and arson on German soil, at the behest of Iran’s intelligence agencies. According to the suspicion, the two gathered targeted information about senior Jewish and Israeli figures in the country in order to carry out assassinations.

The main accused, a Danish citizen identified as Ali, was arrested in June last year in Denmark. His accomplice, an Afghan national known as Tawab, was arrested five months later, in November. The indictment against the two was submitted to the court in Hamburg.

According to the findings of the investigation, Ali acted as an agent in the service of the intelligence apparatus of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and was in continuous and close contact with the Quds Force. At the beginning of 2025, he was assigned the task of gathering detailed intelligence information on a series of prominent targets in Berlin, including: Josef Schuster – Chairman of the Central Council of German Jews and Volker Beck – a former member of the German Parliament and head of the “Germany-Israel Friendship Association”. Also, two Jewish grocery store owners operating in Berlin, whose names have not been published.

“All these actions were used as a clear preparation for targeted assassinations and arson attacks in Germany,” the federal prosecutors stated in an official statement.

The investigation shows that during the past year, Ali toured several locations in Berlin to study the area, while at the same time actively looking for accomplices to help him carry out his murderous plans.

In May 2025, he contacted Tawab, who expressed a willingness to assist in the plot. According to the indictment, Twab agreed to obtain weapons for a third person, whose identity is unknown, to carry out the actual assassination of former member of parliament Volker Beck.

Following Ali’s arrest last year, the German Foreign Ministry summoned Iran’s ambassador to Berlin for a stern reprimand. The Iranian embassy, ​​for its part, rejected the claims at the time and said that these were “baseless and dangerous accusations”.

The current indictment once again reveals the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to use foreign agents and organized crime figures to conduct a campaign of silent terror against Jewish and Israeli targets on European soil.
