VNPT and KDDI have just announced a strategic agreement to develop the second mobile telecommunications brand in Vietnam, focusing on digital experience and young customer groups from the end of this year.
On May 20 in Tokyo, VNPT and KDDI – one of Japan’s largest telecommunications corporations announced a long-term cooperation. The two parties will jointly develop and operate a new mobile brand in the Vietnamese market. This is an important step after the two units signed a business cooperation contract in March in Hanoi, opening a new phase in providing next-generation telecommunications services.

According to the agreement, the new mobile brand focuses on giving priority to young customers and technology lovers with high demand for digital experiences. The project takes advantage of the synergy between the technological capacity and international operating experience of the Japanese corporation and the infrastructure advantages and local market understanding of the Vietnamese network operator. The two sides commit to investing strong financial resources, technology and high-quality human resources to implement the project according to the roadmap.
KDDI will directly share experiences from the “povo” digital carrier model – a famous brand in Japan thanks to its ability to personalize services and optimize user experience on digital platforms. VNPT plays a fundamental role by providing nationwide telecommunications infrastructure, a diverse digital service ecosystem and an available distribution network. This combination helps the new brand quickly reach customers and ensure service quality according to international standards right from the launch stage.

At the announcement ceremony in Tokyo, Mr. Huynh Quang Liem, General Director of VNPT, affirmed that this is a solid foundation for VNPT and KDDI to continue expanding other strategic cooperation models in the future, aiming to improve the quality of digital services for Vietnamese users.
On the Japanese partner’s side, Mr. Hiroshi Takezawa, Senior Operations Director of KDDI Group, expressed his expectations for the potential of the Vietnamese telecommunications market. He believes that his experience in operating digital networks in Japan will help the new brand make a difference. The two corporations aim to officially bring the service to market in the fourth quarter, bringing a new choice to mobile users.
Representatives of both sides said that this cooperation not only stops at business goals, but also contributes to promoting the national digital transformation process and strengthening the trade relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
