The Israeli Navy abandons several ships of the last flotilla adrift

The Israeli Navy has left several ships from the last flotilla to Gaza adrift in Mediterranean waters after the assault in international waters and the arrest of activists who intended to bring humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip despite the Israeli blockade.

This action has left these vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla without any control, which could pose a risk to other vessels, according to Israeli Army Radio.

The Israeli military has marked its location on charts to facilitate navigation, but storms have caused it to drift, without anchor, in the open sea.

In previous humanitarian initiatives, the Israeli Navy had towed these vessels to ports in Israel, but on this occasion they would have remained on the high seas.

A military spokesman explained to ‘The Times of Israel’ that “there is no legal obligation to tow the ships to Israel.” “The ships have been marked as dangers to navigation (but) the storm and the restrictive conditions of the operation made it impossible to tow them to shore,” he argued.
