An oil tanker is damaged by “an external explosion” off the coast of Oman

An oil tanker suffered damage this Tuesday after registering an “external explosion” when it was off the coast of Oman, as confirmed by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center (UKMTO), linked to the British Navy, without details about the incident for now.

Thus, the agency indicated in a statement that the event took place 60 nautical miles (about 111 kilometers) east of the capital of Oman, Muscat, and added that “the captain of the tanker reports an external explosion, on the port side and near the waterline.”

“The crew and the ship are safe, although the captain reports that part of the fuel has been discharged into the sea,” he said, before highlighting that an investigation is underway and asking the ships that are in the area to “transit with caution” through the area.

The event takes place after Iran accused the United States of violating the ceasefire in force since April 8 with its latest attacks against the south of the country, despite the process of negotiations underway to try to achieve a peace agreement for the conflict opened by the offensive launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel against the Asian country.
