Trump calls unusual government meeting at Camp David to discuss Iran

Choosing this secluded retreat in the mountains of Marylandwhere Trump almost never goes, reflects the delicate nature of the discussions.

According to the New York Post, the main topics of the meeting are Iran and the economy.

All members of the Cabinet, including the outgoing director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbardwho has announced that he will leave office on June 30, will participate in the meeting at Camp David.

The complex, guarded by a strong military presenceis a highly restricted access facility where presidents can work and hold meetings in a much more private environment than the White House and away from the media.

Trump said Saturday that an agreement with Tehran to end the war in the Middle East was closebut that the negotiations remain complicated, and warned that attacks against Iran could resume.

Camp David has been the site of important US-led diplomatic initiatives in the past, including the 1978 agreements between Israel and Egypt under President Jimmy Carter and a failed Israeli-Palestinian summit in 2000 under Bill Clinton.

Trump, sin embargo, has been an infrequent visitor of this secondary presidential residence. He has only been there twice in his second term.

The first was a few days before the United States launched attacks against the Iranian nuclear program in June 2025.

During his first term (2017-2021), Trump said he had canceled a planned summit with Taliban leaders at Camp David after an attack on US forces.
