Iran’s chief negotiator demands that the US demonstrate its commitment to an agreement with actions

The head of the Iranian negotiating delegation and president of Parliament, Mohamed Baqer Qalifab, has demanded that the United States go beyond words and confirm with actions its willingness to negotiate as an essential step to the endemic distrust of the Islamic Republic towards the North American authorities.

Amid uncertainty about a possible agreement with the United States, Qalifab has stated that Iran is only obtaining concessions “thanks to missiles and not dialogue,” adding that the negotiations are only serving for Iran to “explain” this position.

Iran has been remembering since the beginning of the war at the end of February that one of the biggest problems to overcome is its traditional distrust of the United States, which last summer together with Israel launched a surprise attack against Iranian territory, in the midst of negotiations between Washington and Tehran on Iran’s nuclear program; a complete betrayal in the eyes of the Iranian authorities.

Qalifab, considered the main interlocutor between Washington and the Iranian leadership, has insisted in his latest message this Friday on social networks that Tehran “no longer trusts guarantees or words” and that “the only criterion to follow is behavior.”

Thus, Tehran “will not act until the other party does” and always taking into account that the threat of conflict will always remain. “The winner of any agreement is the one who has best prepared for a war the next day,” he concluded.
