Nvidia shares Isaac GR00T-based reference design for humanoid robots

Nvidia has introduced a new reference design based on the Isaac GR00T platform and the Jetson Thor computer to democratize frontier humanoid robots in the field of research.

The reference design offers researchers and developers the components that allow them to create a humanoid robot that reaches a height of about 1.80 meters, weighs 68 kilos and has two tactile hands with five fingers each, for manipulating targets.

It is based on the Isaac GR00T platform, which offers a set of software and open source models to support the reasoning, learning and multitasking behavior of robots, with the Jetson Thor to perform real-time inference and control directly in the robbery, as reported in a statement.

The robot is powered by a Jetson AGX Thor T5000 processor, comprised of a Blackwell GPU with 2,070 teraflops FP4 AI performance, a 14-core Arm CPU, 128GB of unified memory, and a configurable power range of 40 to 130 watts.

In addition to having support for connectivity via Ethernet, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, USB and a variety of microphones and speakers for voice interaction, it offers an autonomy of approximately three hours with a battery capacity of 15 Ah (0.972 kWh).

Nvidia has confirmed that this reference design will be used in research at Ai2, ETH Zurich, the Stanford Robotics Center, and the UC San Diego Advanced Control and Robotics Laboratory.
