Zverev’s next opponent: Jakub Mensik, the most skilled sufferer at the French Open – Sport

Andy Roddick, 43, insulted himself with strong words. In his own podcast, one of the best in the tennis world, he said about himself on Tuesday in front of thousands of listeners: “I’m such an a…!” The 2003 US Open winner couldn’t believe that he had ignored Czech professional Jakub Mensik for far too long. Like most tennis observers, he looked almost exclusively at other young professionals, such as the Brazilian João Fonseca, 19, for whom the crowd cheers wildly wherever he plays. Mensik? “We don’t talk about him enough. This guy is fuckin’ good,” Roddick said. And further: “Mensik isn’t super dramatic. That’s why I don’t have him on my radar all the time. He doesn’t have a crazy fan base that follows him everywhere.” One thing is certain for him: “This guy is real. He’s 20. He’s a prototype. He’s 1.96 meters tall, he fires bombs left and right. The difference is: he’s calmer.” Quieter than Fonseca, who plays with the audience. And because Roddick was in such a good mood, he admitted: “We only watched the Navone match when he was on the ground.” He seemed to feel real guilt.
