Flavio Cobolli ‘cries’ with his family after the 2026 Roland Garros final. The Italian tennis player lost the last act of the Paris Slam yesterday, losing to Alexander Zverev in five sets and thus postponing the appointment with his first major title. Cobolli’s journey, however, received applause from fans and enthusiasts, but above all from Flavio’s family, with his brother Guglielmo who dedicated a touching heartfelt letter to him, which quickly became viral on social media.
“Flavio. This morning, when you entered the court, I held my breath. I thought of everything in just a second. Of when we were little. Of all the times I saw you leave with your racket and a suitcase, without knowing when you would return. Of all the times you lost and didn’t say anything, you just lowered your head and left. To dad next to you, always, in every corner of the world. To how much you both gave, in silence, without anyone really understanding the price. I I understood. Because I was there. Because I am your brother”, wrote Guglielmo Cobolli on his Instagram profile.
“And this morning you were in the final at Roland Garros. Do you know what I felt in that moment? Not excitement. Not anxiety. I felt something bigger, something that held me tight, something that I didn’t know I had inside until I saw you there in the middle of that field. It was love. It was pride. It was the weight of everything I know and that no one else sees.”
“You lost today. And it hurts that cannot be described, I know. A Sardinian, heavy pain that doesn’t go away immediately. But that pain is the exact measure of how much you loved this moment. And you loved it with everything you had. I won’t tell you that it will get better. I won’t tell you the things that everyone says. I’ll only tell you what I know for sure”, continued Guglielmo Cobolli, “I watched today and I didn’t see a defeat. I saw my brother, in a Slam final, who he fought until his last breath. I saw the man who became the boy I grew up with. I saw something that I will carry within me for life. In a way that never ends. Thank you.”
