It is worth noting that the 2025/26 campaign marked a milestone in the production of sunflower in Argentina. With 3.1 million hectares plantedthe largest area since the 1999/2000 campaign, and yields above average, the harvest has been estimated at 6.6 million tonsthe highest in 27 years and the second highest in the history of the crop. According to estimates from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (SAGyP) of the Nation, production could even be higher than 7 million tons, which would establish a maximum in the official historical record. Meanwhile, the militarywith almost 92 percent of the harvested area and surprising average yields of around 32 quintals per hectare, promises to be one of the highest productions in history, exceeding the 50 million tons.

“This flagship project reflects both our confidence in Argentina’s long-term potential and our commitment to further strengthen our already strong industrial presence in the country,” Gelchie said.

Para Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), Argentina is a strategic market for some of its business lines, including grains, oilseeds and their derivatives, and cotton. In his letter, Gelchie valued the country’s natural resources, as well as agricultural knowledge and experience and its global relevance in food and animal nutrition supply chains. In this sense, Gelchie stated that Argentina is “a cornerstone” of the company’s global operations. In addition to these reasons, the manager stated that the investment was also decided by the “recognition of the important macroeconomic progress achieved by the national government in recent months.”

According to Gelchie, “this project will further strengthen Argentina’s position as a leading global supplier of agricultural products, while deepening LDC’s relationship with the country’s producers and other business actors.”

The director of the company will visit Argentina in July and has already requested a meeting with Minister Caputo to provide details about the project and “analyze ways to continue collaborating in the development of the country’s agricultural sector,” as he expressed.
