Some 5,250 people visited the Prado and Thyssen Museums on Saturday night on the occasion of the Pope’s trip

Some 5,250 people visited the National Prado Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum during the night from Saturday, June 6 to Sunday, June 7, for free on the occasion of the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain, as sources from the two art galleries have confirmed to Europa Press.

Specifically, around 2,750 people came to the Prado during this special time – from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. -. Furthermore, according to the museum, attendance figures were “a little higher” than usual and there were 13,298 visitors throughout the day – from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. -. For its part, around 2,500 people attended Thyssen between 7:00 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

The initiative, titled ‘Night in White and Yellow’ after the colors of the Vatican flag, has taken as a reference the ‘Night in White’, a cultural initiative that emerged in Paris in 2002 with the aim of bringing cultural and artistic heritage closer to society.

In addition to the Prado and the Thyssen, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, the Gallery of the Royal Collections and the Naval Museum have participated in the initiative, as well as cultural and artistic centers such as the CaixaForum, the Telefónica Foundation Space, the Mapfre Foundation; local museums such as the Madrid History Museum, the Debod Temple or the San Isidro Museum; and entities, both public and private, such as the Teatros del Canal, the Banca March Garden or the Reina Sofía Higher School of Music.

Likewise, some Madrid parishes with architectural, historical and artistic value joined the night and opened their doors at that time so that pilgrims could visit them and pray in them.
