Yle doesn’t see a problem with Kaisa Mäkäräinen’s new biathlon ski resort

Biathlon Union announced on Tuesday that he chose a former biathlete Kaisa Mäkäräinen As the second coach of the U21 national team group.

It raised the question of whether Mäkäräinen’s new job will make him the last to comment on biathlon.

“Mäkäräinen doesn’t stop as an expert”, Yle’s editorial manager of sports events Kristiina Kekäläinen says.

“We have been talking about it regularly with him. He is interested in coaching in the future and we have already known about it.”

According to Kekäläinen, Mäkäräinen’s role in the coaching group of the U21 team is small.

“The fact that Mäkäräinen is with the U21 team for a few days this autumn does not affect the analysis of the A national team”, Kekäläinen continues.

“We have had experts in the past who have personal coaches or who have been involved in youth activities. We have made this clear in those contexts where experts evaluate athletes,” says Kekäläinen.

In the year Mäkäräinen, 43, who ended his career in 2020, has worked as Yle’s biathlon expert for almost this entire decade.

In the U21 national team, Mäkäräinen works as a responsible coach Ilkka Jarvan with.
