Closure of large areas in the Pentagon – due to a hazardous materials incident

The Pentagon spokesman announced today (Thursday) that after an initial inspection, a problem with the air quality in the area was identified. In the US, it was decided that until the seriousness of the problem is understood, preventive measures will be taken. In the meantime, a lockdown was imposed on large areas of the Pentagon – due to a “hazardous materials incident”.

Several floors and corridors inside the Pentagon were closed, and other areas were evacuated, three sources familiar with the details and the local fire department told CNN.

A message sent by the Pentagon’s security team stated that an “air quality problem” had been identified and that further testing was required. “These additional tests may last one to two hours. Response teams are prepared and ready to support those staying in the building if necessary,” the statement said. “You may notice teams from several agencies and precautionary measures being carried out in the central courtyard. Please do not interpret the activity.”
