The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, held a telephone conversation this Thursday with the Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araqchi, to whom she conveyed the need for her country and the United States to return to the “diplomatic path” to avoid the return of a “large-escalation” war.
This was confirmed by the head of European diplomacy in a message on social networks, in which she detailed that she had spoken with her Iranian counterpart about the “state of negotiations with the United States” and “the latest escalation in the Gulf”, describing as “unacceptable” Tehran’s recent attacks against the countries of the region and their critical infrastructures.
For its part, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has detailed that Araqchi has condemned before Kallas the United States attacks against his country, stating that they are a “clear violation” of International Law and that they have led to the end of the ceasefire that Washington and Tehran had agreed to while holding peace negotiations.
The head of Iranian diplomacy has also conveyed to the High Representative of the Union the “silence” of the UN Member States regarding the Trump Administration’s attacks, and has warned that global inaction would lead to an increase in regional and global insecurity.
Washington and Tehran have exchanged attacks, after the Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for launching a wave of drone attacks against US bases located in Bahrain and other points in the Middle East, in an action that it described as “retaliation” for the aggressions perpetrated by the United States against various enclaves of the Islamic Republic.
