Pentagon in lockdown, some areas of the building evacuated due to a false alarm

The evacuation of the Pentagon – due to the reporting of an accident with dangerous substances – was triggered due to a false alarm. This was announced by CNN. Multiple floors and corridors inside the Pentagon have been placed on lockdown and others are being evacuated. CNN reports it, citing three sources. Pentagon spokesman, Sean Parnellhad said that systems within the Pentagon “have detected an air quality issue that requires precautionary measures until we determine its severity.”

Pentagon evacuated due to hazmat incident

The evacuation at the Pentagon was triggered following a fake hazardous materials accident. Second the firefighters in Arlington County, the alarm was triggered by an air quality issue detected by the building’s monitoring systems. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell had confirmed that internal systems had detected it an anomaly that requires precautionary measures until it is possible to evaluate its scope. “The Department is implementing standard protection protocols, including a stay-in-place order for the affected area,” he said, adding that emergency crews are already operational to assist personnel in the building.
The response was coordinated by the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s hazardous materials management team, with support from the Arlington County Fire Department. Arlington Fire & Ems had also confirmed that its HazMat (hazardous materials) unit was busy at the Pentagon as part of a “hazardous materials incident”.
According to two of the sources cited by CNN, the lockdown has affected the second through fifth floors in corridors four through seven of the vast military complex. A third source also reported that police officers present in the building are operating wearing gas masks and full chemical protection suits.
