EU, final vote on migrant repatriation regulation at next plenary session

Next Monday in the plenary session of the European Parliament it is expected the final vote on reform regarding the repatriation of migrants.

The new regulation for the repatriation of migrants

Il repatriation regulationalready provisionally agreed between Parliament and the Council of the EU, provides for new cooperation obligations for third-country nationals who are recipients of a repatriation decision, and authorizes their detention until 24 monthsextendable in specific cases. The new rules also aim to strengthen the mutual recognition of repatriation decisions between EU countries and open up the possibility of using repatriation hub located in third countries for migrants subject to a repatriation order. Before next Wednesday’s plenary vote, the European Chamber’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committee will give its opinion on the provisional agreement on Monday. In case of approval by the European Parliament, the word will then pass to the Council of the EU and the member states, who will have to formally approve the new rules.

We will then return to talking aboutenlargement of the Union. The Parliament will discuss on Tuesday afternoon, and adopt on Wednesday, the annual reports evaluating the progress towards EU accession of 7 countries: Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Kosovo, then Georgia and Turkey. However, the discussion requested by the Patriots for Europe group on the murder of Henry Nowak, the Polish student murdered last December in Southampton, will not take place. The debate was rejected by the Conference of Presidents.
