Car costs: Fuel prices are approaching pre-war levels

This means that diesel was only 7 cents per liter more expensive on Monday than on the last day before the start of the war, E10 was 9 cents more expensive. That’s 3.50 or 4.50 euros per tank of 50 liters. At its peak, diesel had become more expensive by more than 70 cents per liter during the crisis, and E10 by more than 40 cents.

Things will go down further on Tuesday

In addition, the figures from Tuesday morning also point to further falling prices: at 8.45 a.m. a liter of diesel cost a nationwide average of 1.764 euros – 2.1 cents less than at the same time the previous day. A liter of E10 cost 1,826 euros – 1.6 cents less than 24 hours earlier.

Although the snapshot from Tuesday is an indication of further price developments, the daily average can deviate significantly from it. Since the introduction of the 12 o’clock rule, fuel is typically rather cheap in the morning and mid-morning. Prices then jump sharply at midday and become cheaper again as the afternoon progresses.

Recently, oil prices have fallen significantly – also because the signs in the Middle East point to relaxation. However, the ADAC complained that this was only slowly reaching consumers.

The price jump will come in two weeks

The fact that fuel prices are now close to their pre-war levels is also due to the federal government’s fuel rebate, which has reduced taxes per liter by 16.7 cents. It is only valid until the end of the month and should not be extended. Then drivers face higher prices again. At least diesel, based on Monday’s price, remained below 2 euros per liter even without the tax discount. If the price trend of the last few days continues, this could also be the case for E10.
