Top snowboarder Hofmeister is pregnant

Snowboard ace Ramona Hofmeister is pregnant. The 30-year-old announced this in an Instagram post. The Upper Bavarian would like to continue her sporting career after her baby break.

In one photo, Hofmeister can be seen with a baby bump on which German Shepherd Chili is lying. In another photo with the dog, Hofmeister and her partner hold two ultrasound images into the camera. She wrote “Our little winter wonder is on the way”, which translates as “Our little winter miracle is on the way”.

“It was a conscious decision to take this step. I felt ready for it,” said Hofmeister. “I definitely want to return to competitive sports. I can’t say exactly when that will be. Now our child is our priority.”

According to sports director Andreas Scheid, the association’s doors are open to Hofmeister. “Competitive sports and family planning must not be a contradiction,” said the official. “We will provide her with the best possible support on her journey and work together to create the conditions to make a return to top-class sport possible. Ramona has often proven in her career the determination with which she takes on challenges.”

Bronze at the 2018 Olympics

Hofmeister is the most successful German snowboarder in recent years. In 2018 in Pyeongchang she won Olympic bronze in the parallel giant slalom and won the overall World Cup four times.

Last winter, Hofmeister had to worry about taking part in the Olympic Games in Italy after suffering a fractured ankle. The Bavarian fought back, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals and thus missed the medal she had hoped for.
