Despite the heatwave, Laurent Nuñez does not plan “a general reconsideration of the festivities”

Laurent Nuñez assured Friday that there would be no “no general questioning of the festivities” planned for the Fête de la Musique on Sunday, while several municipalities announced the cancellation of events due to the heat wave. Speaking to the press, following a meeting in Beauvau with the Minister of Health Stéphanie Rist, the Minister of the Interior specified that he had requested “to the prefects” in “very close link with the organizers to ensure that all precautions are taken so that these festivities take place in the best conditions”.

“There is no questioning of the activities planned for music festivals in general”insisted Laurent Nuñez, adding: “On a case-by-case basis, everyone will assess whether certain events may not pose difficulties”.

Drowning and fire prevention

He cited three « points d’attention » for the police for the Fête de la Musique. Namely the deployment of a major law enforcement system to avoid any overflow, the risk of drowning – in Paris, 18 boats will be mobilized – and the risk of fire. He noted that the Paris police chief, Patrice Faure, had requested the cancellation of the 11 outdoor sporting events planned in the capital this weekend.

The minister specified that the prefect had contacted the organizers and that 10 of the sporting events had been canceled “by mutual agreement with the organizer”. “For one of them,” he added, “it was not possible and the prefect of police issued a ban order.”.
