WTA Tour: Tennis professional Maria is eliminated after a strange game

In preparation for Wimbledon, tennis player Tatjana Maria missed the semi-finals at the WTA tournament in Nottingham. After an unusual game, the 38-year-old from Swabia lost out in the quarterfinals against the favorite Czech Marie Bouzkova 5:7, 0:6.

Against the number four seeded list, Maria quickly found herself 0:4 behind, but then turned the game around and led 5:4 thanks to five game wins in a row. However, the German tennis player was unable to use this to win the first round. She lost nine games in a row – and after losing the set, the match clearly went to her opponent.

Crash in the tennis world rankings

For Maria, the tournament weeks on grass are an important phase of the season. After her title coup at London’s Queen’s Club a year ago, she was eliminated there in the round of 16 last week and fell significantly in the world rankings from 52nd to 117th. Next week Maria will compete in Eastbourne before the grass classic starts in Wimbledon on June 29th.
