Google launches Android 17 on Pixels, all the news

Google has kicked off the official release of Android 17, starting as usual from the Pixel smartphone range and anticipating the distribution by the other partner manufacturers expected during 2026. The most obvious innovation at the interface level is represented by the “Bubbles”, floating windows that can be activated with a long press that optimize the simultaneous management of applications. This solution, already partially known thanks to some proprietary customizations from the competition, now becomes a system standard and introduces a dedicated bar at the bottom of the screen to facilitate the user experience on tablets and foldable devices.

The update package includes tools aimed at multimedia and entertainment. The Screen Reaction feature simplifies the creation of content for social networks, allowing you to record a video with the front camera simultaneously with the screen capture. For gaming enthusiasts, foldable devices now benefit from a split interface that places a virtual gamepad in the lower half of the display, leaving the visual action in the upper half. Added to this is a native mapping of the controllers extended to all compatible smartphones, as well as a generic enhancement of the security systems and parental controls.

June’s Pixel Drop integration reserves exclusive options for Mountain View phones, focusing primarily on the expansion of generative AI. The Gemini application includes the Omni model for generating video content starting from textual input, supported by Lyria 3 for the creation of music tracks. On the services and connectivity front, Quick Share support extends to the Pixel 8A and 9A models, voice translation of calls debuts on the 10A and the message management function reaches almost all models starting from the Pixel 6. News also for Google Photos, whose conversational changes officially arrive in Italy and other main European markets.

However, not all the innovations presented during the Android Show preview find their way into today’s release. The most complex features of the Gemini Intelligence suite, including the Rambler transcription tool, generative widgets and advanced task automation, will be gradually introduced later this summer on only a selection of top-of-the-line devices. However, other minor changes still remain without a defined launch window, such as the graphic renewal of the emoji and the digital well-being tool called Pause Point.
