The now 44-year-old American had played her last Grand Slam singles so far at the US Open 2022 and lost in three sets in the third round against the Australian Ajla Tomljanović. She then initially retired from professional tennis. The mother of two only celebrated her comeback in doubles at London’s Queen’s Club on June 9th – with Canadian Victoria Mboko.

Recently, Serena Williams left questions about a single wildcard for Wimbledon at the Berlin WTA tournament. At this point, there was still one starting place left in the women’s individual main field. It is now clear that the 23-time Grand Slam winner will take it.
