For planned deportations of criminal Afghans: Taliban wants to send more diplomats to Germany

The aim is to initially deport more criminals and dangerous people, the spokesman said. It is not yet clear when exactly the Taliban officials will come to Germany. During talks last week, the federal government and the Taliban agreed on more returns.

Dobrindt wants to significantly expand deportations

At the weekend, the Federal Ministry of the Interior announced that in future up to three charter flights per month and individual repatriations by scheduled flight would be possible at any time. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) wants to significantly expand deportations to Afghanistan.

Last week, Germany deported 32 Afghans to their country of origin by charter flight. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the men expelled included criminals who had been convicted of, among other things, rape, homicide, sexual abuse of children, drug trafficking and predatory extortion.

A deportation flight originally planned for the end of May had previously been canceled because the Taliban rulers had not cooperated. According to information from the German Press Agency, the de facto rulers in Kabul had previously expressed dissatisfaction with what they saw as the lack of willingness to talk on the part of representatives of the Foreign Office.

In August 2024, 28 male criminals were deported from Leipzig to Kabul with the help of Qatar for the first time since the Taliban came to power three years earlier. There are now also deportations to Afghanistan organized by Germany itself – both individual deportations by scheduled flights and collective charters.
