Ruben Rubinyan was elected as a candidate for the NA Speaker

“As a result of discussion and secret voting, Ruben Rubinyan was elected as the candidate for the President of the National Assembly,” announced Prime Minister Pashinyan.

In the conversation with journalists, Ruben Rubinyan emphasized: “I am flattered by the result and the trust is very binding for me. I can’t say that I have to do anything better than the previous president or the other candidates. I think that Mr. Simonyan was a very good president of the National Assembly and Mr. Konjoryan was a brilliant faction leader.”

Three candidates were competing for the NA Speaker’s seat: acting Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan and faction leader Hayk Konjoryan.

Ruben Rubinyan also informed that a decision will be made regarding the deputy speakers. “The nomination stage will be opened and people will be able to nominate themselves and we will choose a deputy speaker with the same procedure.”

Ruben Rubinyan, the ambassador of Armenia in the Armenian-Turkish negotiations, was asked by “Freedom” whether, since he is involved in the Armenian-Turkish negotiations, is it possible for anything to change here or not, Rubinyan responded. “I don’t know, I didn’t think about it, because that decision was made 5 minutes ago, we didn’t manage to address that issue in 5 minutes.”

In response to “Freedom’s” question, Vahagn Aleksanyan, the vice-chairman of the party department, also said that he has already been nominated for the post of NA vice-chairman.

The election of the President of the National Assembly is organized during the first session of the newly elected Parliament, all factions can nominate a candidate. The speaker is elected by secret ballot with the majority of votes of the total number of deputies, has three deputies, one of them from the opposition.

As a result of the June 7 elections, CP, “Strong Armenia” and “Armenia” blocs entered the parliament, but the last word is with the Constitutional Court, where the issue of PAP’s exclusion is also contested. Along with this, the main question is still unanswered: will the oppositionists take their mandates? In any case, the government team is already warning that the oppositionists will be “politically destroyed” in the parliament.
