Lebanon raises the death toll to almost 4,280 due to Israeli attacks on its territory since March

This Tuesday, the Government of Lebanon has raised the death toll to almost 4,280 and nearly 12,200 injured due to bombings perpetrated by the Israeli Army against its territory since March 2, the day it resumed fighting with the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, despite the ceasefire in force since mid-April.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health has indicated in a statement carried by the Lebanese news agency NNA that 4,278 people have died, a figure that includes 135 health professionals, and 12,196 have been injured as a result of these attacks.

Last Friday, the authorities of Lebanon and Israel reached a framework agreement in Washington to begin talks with a view to achieving lasting peace, although this does not imply the Israeli withdrawal from the areas it has invaded in the south of the neighboring country and establishes only a “gradual” and conditional exit always linked to the disarmament of the Shiite militias, effective only in two “pilot areas.”

The text states that the Lebanese Army will “reestablish effective sovereignty” over its entire territory, however, “pending the verified disarmament” of Hezbollah, which has already rejected this agreement and warned for the umpteenth time that it will not begin a disarmament process based on these conversations between these two parties.

The framework agreement also comes after the fifth round of talks between the two countries since March 2 and with a fragile ceasefire, reached in mid-April and subsequently extended, which has not completely put an end to Israeli bombings or the launching of projectiles by Hezbollah.
